The project involved the design of contemporary restroom facilities within River West Shopping Mall, conceived as a moment of pause and retreat within the intensity of the surrounding retail environment.
The new facilities were designed to accommodate a broad range of visitor needs through a spacious, bright and carefully organised environment. In addition to the main restroom areas, the scheme incorporates dedicated baby-changing facilities, children’s bathrooms and a private breastfeeding room, creating an inclusive and family-oriented experience.
The design seeks to establish a clear transition from the visual and spatial complexity of the shopping centre into an environment that feels calm, fresh and welcoming. A restrained palette of crisp white surfaces is combined with warm wood-effect details, introducing a subtle material contrast that balances clarity and cleanliness with a more tactile and approachable character.
At the entrance, a cascading water feature introduces a sensory element to the space, creating an immediate sense of calm and relaxation. The design also places particular emphasis on hygiene and ease of use, with touch-free fixtures and automated equipment supporting a seamless and intuitive visitor experience.
Through the careful integration of light, materiality, functionality and sensory elements, the restrooms are conceived not simply as service spaces, but as a considered and restorative part of the overall visitor experience.
